Kalbarri

With much excitement we packed up and left the Belair Caravan Park with the Beesons. It seemed so long since we've been travelling, I'm sure we'll remember how to do it! We made a 'little' stop on the way for a couple of things we broke in the last day before we left. The Beesons were very patient! First stop Kalbarri, a mear 150km down the road.

We pulled into the Tudor Caravan Park at Kalbarri in good time. We set up then went to the visitor info centre. Had a drive around town. It's a really pretty seaside town with a great sheltered family friendly beach areas. Pity it's too cold for swimming. Will head north quick I think!! Then we went to Blue Pools for a look and a nice walk along the beach.

We pretty well spent the mornings getting back into school work then sightseeing in the arvo. The kids were so good about doing school, only the occasional whinge and so far I haven't spat the dummy either.

We spent a fair amount of time at Kalbarri National Park. It's a pretty spectacular place. The first day we did a couple of short walks to Ross Graeme and Hawks Head lookout. Then we walked to Z Bend. The funniest part was when we were chatting by the rivers edge and Bell was telling us we weren't north enough for crocs. Marty snuck and threw a big rock in the water near her. Was hilarious how far she jumped and squealed!!

The next day we set off early to do the Loop and Natures Window. Both were fabulous. After taking a whole heap of pictures and admiring the view through the window we set off to hike the 8km loop. It was a great walk with cliffs, steep edges, rocks to climb and sandy beaches to walk on. The kids went really well, only started complained after 5km.  All four kids have their own Camel Packs and carry all their one water and snacks now which is great, saved our backs. Or Marks anyway!  We were all a bit tired after.

We spent one afternoon fishing with the kids. We caught nothing even though the fish were biting and we could see them jumping!! and the Beesons caught a couple of small fish. Every other chance Mark has had he's headed off fishing but still no luck. So he's been to the Tackle shop and stocked up on more necessary gear!

Our last afternoon we spent exploring the cliffs on the way into Kalbarri. They are very impressive. We walked to most of the look outs and took plenty of pictures. I spent a lot of time watching Jake near the edges. Only to then have Mark nick over for a better picture! Almost gave me a heart attack, he found it hilarious!

I can see why so many people from Geraldton rave about Kalbarri. It's a lovely little town with lots to do. It would be especially lovely in the warmer weather swimming and kayaking etc. we've enjoyed our visit, it's been a good stop for us to be getting back in the rhythm of travelling.
I'm writing this as we drive to Monkey Mia. A place we've been keen to go for years. We've booked a water front site, paid the extra, only to have 50mm of rain predicted tomorrow!! I hope the dolphins like the rain....
