40 Mile

After leaving Ningaloo Station we had a massive drive to get to 40 mile.  With that in  mind we decided to have a one night stop over 3/4 of the way there.  We found a great free spot by the river and stayed hooked up for the night.  The kids had fun climbing trees and finding wood for the camp fire.  You'd think we'd had enough camp fires by now, but not yet!  The boys got the fire going and we sat around it eating dinner.  It was very peaceful and the stars were fabulous.

We are on a bit of a tight budget at times so we try to free or cheap camp as much as possible.  The Blundells and us found a good spot at 40 mile and set up for a few days.  We had a walk along the beach, collected some shells and took some pictures.  The next day we had a drive around and explored the area.

We spent a day in Karratha and Dampier looking about, and that was plenty.  For a mining area, its pretty nice one but not the place to spend anytime on whilst on holiday.  Our favourite part of town was checking out the Red Dog statue and seeing the mining company's info centre.  But that's about it.

Some big ass trucks and loads we've been seeing on the road
We took off for a day trip to Millstream National Park.  We had heard lots of different opinions on the park.  We had a really good day, we quite liked it there.  It was interesting checking out the homestead and the surrounding walks.  Some really pretty areas to see.  But not exactly a large park with lots to do or hikes really.

After doing a couple of hikes and exploring the homestead we went to Deep Creek for a picnic lunch.  This would be a great place in summer, bit cold now.  Of course Mark had a very quick swim and soon jumped out!

One of our favourite parts of the day was the drive to Python pool.  There were some magic views of the landscape.  We walked in to Python pool and after much encouragement we all hoped in and had a swim.  But of course it was bloody freezing!!  But you have to do these things.

That's about it for 40 mile, we basically spent a day in Karratha, a day doing washing and a day at Millstream.  So just a wee little blog this time.  The next one will be big, its Karijini, getting excited now!
