Katherine and Edith Falls

After leaving WA we did a big days drive but stopped for overnight at a rest stop before continuing on to Katherine and the Gorge.  We stopped in town and did the groceries, including a 45 minute wait at the check out, a crazy busy place.  Then we treated ourselves to lunch, surrounded by hundreds of US Marines who were in town.  Katherine was an interesting sight that day! We camped at the caravan park with the Hardfurms, a basic caravan park but with a fabulous pool.  So worth it as its getting warm now!
Ton and Jordan joined us went on a walk to the look out and over the ridge.   A bit of a hike up hill but a nice view over a small section of the gorge.  It got very hot and we were pretty thirsty by the end of it.

That afternoon we all went on the gorge cruise.  We really enjoyed it, the gorge is pretty nice with all the high cliff edges around (except Riley who still wasn’t well).  You go on one boat to start with and then do a short walk and get on another boat.  We saw a few crocs, even saw one up higher on this ledge, not sure how he got up there!  The next day we packed up and went to Edith Falls.

There were so many bats hanging about in the trees, a rather distinguishing odour was in the air.

We set up camp with the Furmhards and the Beesons.  Had a catch up and a lovely swim at the main swimming area.  I even managed a little nap on the green grass, was very nice.  The next day the other guys left and we went on the hike to Sweetwater.  Was a pretty big day and its hot hot hot here now.  We swam in 5 different spots and had a great day.  The kids are pretty happy to hike as long as theres a swimming spot.  They did whinge a little in the last half hour but that's pretty good i think!  The upper pool and waterfall were particularly beautiful.  Then treated ourselves to an ice cream at the kiosk.
