First Stop

Well the Woods family adventure, Travelling Long, has began.  First test run was to Strahan, west coast Tasmania.  It cetainly was interesting for our first trip, and a lot of fun.  I never realised how hilly it is down west, the poor car got a work out, poor mark was concerntrating hard!  The caravan towed beautifully and no mechanical probs, good job Mark (and Anthony).  We loaded the kids and all the gear and then we were off.  First caravan we met on the road gave us the travelling wave (seems almost all caravanners wave to each other!)  We stopped for a late lunch and shared a table with a nice old couple, who Mark had a lovely and very informative chat, the first of many I expect...:)  We stayed two nights at the Strahan Big 4, an old but nice park.  Had a couple of issues, mainly that we forgot our extension cord and couldn't plug into power and being a small town, no one sold 15 amp cords, luckily a nice man at the caravan park lent us one.  Still trying to work out how to use the van, the water system seems to have a mind of its own, but am sure we can tame it!  We went on the Gordon river cruise to Sarah Island, was very interesting and great day, the kids had a ball. A great way to spend Jake and my birthday.  The kids were so good on the long drive and settling to life in the caravan.  Charlotte woke up one morning and said, "I can't believe I get to live in a van, will we sell the van to another family so they can go on holidays too when we get back?".  The distance education thing is proving a bit of a challenge, Jake can't sit still and Charlotte gets distracted and rushes her work, but they are getting better.  We're finding it hard to find time to do the work, mainly because there is far too much else to do.  Am sure we'll get there.  We're back home for a few days to do washing and have a birthday party for Jake, then off to Hobart for easter.  Will blog more then......:)
